Rockstar Cable Jam Final Results

Toe Jam Wakeskate Series Ends With A Bang

Orlando, Fla.  – Wakeskating’s premier contest series concluded today at the OWC in Orlando, Florida, as 25 of the world’s best riders battled it out for the Rockstar Cable Jam and the coveted Toe Jam overall season title.

Toe Jam fans packed the shoreline while celebrating the Fourth of July watching the historic events as they unfolded. All the riders were pumped riding under sunny skies on glassy water and the Toe Jam vibe was in full swing.

Top moves of the day were a switch mute 180 glide off the kicker by Dieter Humpsch, Bret Little’s 270 shove onto the box, shove off, John Ruark’s varial flip on / shove off the box and a 360 flip from Reed Hansen and Matt Manzari during their head-to-head battle.

The final two riders battling in the final were Stu Shinn and Bret Little. Shinn laid down a solid run with a boardslide big spin, backside big spin, 360 shove, kickflip, backside flip and backside 360 off the kicker.

Little, the Texas native who rides for Byerly Boards and Rockstar Energy Drink, is a local at the TSR cable and looked as comfortable as ever during his finals run. Highlights were his 270 shove to back lip shove, kickflip, back lip / boardslide shove, slob 360 and switch backside 360 off the kicker. The difficulty of his run, combined with the variety of moves utilizing the whole course earned him the Rockstar Cable Jam title.

The road to victory wasn’t easy, “It was pretty wild and really intense,” Little said.  “Everybody came out firing and it’s awesome to see everyone riding so well on the cable. The Toe Jam is the best series in the sport right now, and we need it really bad. Next year’s gonna be amazing.”

Tension was in the air as the coveted season title was on the line as well. Reed Hansen advanced further than Brian Grubb today, earning him the overall title, with Brandon Thomas taking third. Hansen definitely earned it, while stomping a quarterfinals run including four flip tricks and solid rail hits. “It’s an awesome feeing to ride consitent all year” said Hansen. “I can’t wait  to get out and hit some spots with my new Grinch winch I won for the overall.”

Scott Byerly would like to thank Rockstar Energy Drink and O’Neill for their undying support of the Toe Jam as well as Nike 6.0, Hyperlite, Arnette Air Nautiques and Sea Doo. “Without these guys, there would be no Toe Jam as we know it and a lot of them have been behind it since day one.”

Final Stop Of 2009 Toe Jam Wakeskate Series

Orlando, Fla. — Don’t miss the final stop of the 2009 Toe Jam wakeskate series as the top rider is crowned with the season title at the Orlando Watersports Complex for the Rockstar Cable Jam on July 3-4.

Toe Jam CEO and All-American Godfather, Scott Byerly, rescheduled this event from July 24-25 to the holiday weekend so that friends and family can come out and enjoy the Fourth of July at Florida’s premiere wake park. Spectators can catch some rays, ride the OWC’s large cableway, grab lunch and check out the latest wake products at Performance Ski and Surf’s on-site retail shop. Byerly is looking forward to another historic Toe Jam throw-down, “It’s been another amazing season and the riding just keeps getting better. The OWC is the perfect spot to cap off this season and crown a season title winner.”

The highlight of the day is sure to be the head-to-head final, where last year Reed Hansen laid down a five-flip-trick finals run capped off by a double kickflip, the first ever in competition.

Riders will be scored on their use of the park as a whole, with consideration given for both surface tricks and moves pulled off the rails and kickers.

Semi-finalists will be challenging for six open spots into the 12-man final. Six other spots are already reserved for past Toe Jam Champions.

Rockstar Wake Jam Finals

Toe Jam Stop #3

Orlando, Fla. — A top-notch venue was unveiled today, as the world’s best wakeskaters competed for the first time at Nautique Headquarters in Orlando, Florida for the Rockstar Wake Jam.

Of course the towboat of choice was the Byerly Icon Edition 210 Nautique, which shaped the perfect wake and delivered solid pulls all day with the help of Zero-Off GPS speed control. The highest level of today’s wake riding was on display, with the judges looking for big wake moves over flats and lip tricks.

Notable hammers were Reed Hansen’s 360 shove, Ross Gardner’s toeside late front big, Brian Grubb’s wrapped toeside nose grab backside 180, Dieter Humpsch’s indy poked backside 180’s and Brandon Thomas’ big spin mute.

The final showdown came down to a head-to-head battle between Brian Grubb and Reed Hansen, arguably the two best wake riders in the sport. Hansen landed three different 360’s plus a late shove and then came super close on a 540 attempt.

Grubb pulled through in the clutch with a nose grab 360, late shove (toeside and heelside) and his signature wrapped toeside nose grab backside 180, combined with other stylish airs to beat Hansen by a very narrow margin.

Being the sport’s most dominant wake rider isn’t as easy as Grubb makes it seem. “There were some really tough heats today, so I’m really glad to have made it out on top,” Grubb said. “I’d like to thank Chris Kallas and Brandon Thomas. I’ve been riding with them a lot and we’ve all been pushing each other real hard. I’d also like to thank my sponsors, my family and Amber for coming to all the events. And of course Sean Dishman and Scott Byerly for putting on the best events in wakeskating.”
The fourth and final stop on the Toe Jam Tour will be the Rockstar Cable Jam at the Orlando Watersports Complex on July 3-4.

Rockstar Rail Jam Finals
Toe Jam Stop #2

Orlando, Fla. — The sport of wakeskating took another step forward today at The Projects outside of Orlando, Florida for stop number two on the Toe Jam Wakeskate Series to determine which rider would win the Rockstar Rail Jam title.

37 riders ripped the glassy waters in the world’s most progressive rail park and the level of riding is progressing faster than ever. After a heated 16-man head-to-head battle, the final four consisted of Ben Horan vs. Reed Hansen and Nick Taylor vs. Brandon Thomas.

Hansen was solid on all the rails, but most notable about his riding today was the fact that he stuck three 360 flips and three backside big flips throughout the rounds, helping send him to the final against Nick Taylor. Taylor’s final run was near flawless, with a kickflip, boardslide big spin off the Nike 6.0 incline, switch back lip on the Rockstar flat rail, varial flip, frontside flip, backside flip and back lip shove off the Nike 6.0 incline.

Hansen’s final run came complete with his signature line of 3-shove, varial flip, backside big spin, frontside flip, kickflip – and he followed that up with a back lip shove off the Rockstar flat bar, switch boardslide shove and a switch front board. However his deadly streak of 360 flips came to an end, with Hansen picking up three falls before time ran out, making Taylor the standout rider.

Taylor pulled off a repeat today as the Rockstar Rail Jam champion and is at the top of his game. “To be able to ride that good in front of everyone is the best feeling,” Taylor said. “This event had a classic Toe Jam vibe that has been there since day one. Just another fun day on the water at the Projects with super good conditions, nice flat bars and inclines. It’s great to be back riding with everyone and having fun, that’s what it’s all about.”

The next event on the Toe Jam Series will be the Rockstar Wake Jam at Nautique headquarters outside of Orlando, Florida on June 5-6. Toe Jam Stop #2

Orlando, Fla. —Stop number two on the Toe Jam wakeskate series is set for May 8-9 at the Projects in Orlando, Florida. The world’s best riders will be battling it out behind a PWC in the sport’s most progressive rail course.

Toe Jam director Scott Byerly is looking forward to another throw down at the historic Projects site. “This is where it all started.” Byerly said. “There’s no better place to have a rail contest. And this site, with all its history, really makes the riders want to ride good and show the world that they’re pushing it.”

Just like every rail event, Byerly stated that the course is a “rail park” which means riders will be judged rail-heavy, but that surface and lip tricks will be counted as well. Will we see another flawless run by last year’s champion Nick Taylor? Perhaps another Ben Horan flicked kickflip off a flat rail? Does Reed Hansen still have his 360 flips on lock? All these questions and more will be answered soon enough.

Semi-finalists will be challenging for six open spots into the 12-man finals. Six other spots are already reserved for past Toe Jam Champions.
